The highlights:
– The Chevrolet Volt hybrid is approved for production.
– The Hummer brand will undergo a strategic review.
– A new Chevrolet compact car, built on the global Delta platform, has been approved. It will be the eventual replacement for the Chevrolet Cobalt.
– GM is shutting down production of big pickups and SUVs at four plants: Oshawa, Ontario (Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra); Moraine, Ohio (Chevy TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Saab 9-7x); Janesville, Wisconsin (Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon); and Toluca, Mexico (Chevy Kodiak medium-duty truck).
GM is also preparing a new generation of the Chevrolet Aveo, and setting up production in the United States for a turbocharged, 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine.
The moves were announced on Tuesday ahead of GM’s annual shareholder meeting.
