BATMAN WAS HERE!!!!

Batman was here at Jupiter Chevrolet last Saturday!!! What a blast we had when he was here!! He helped us by picketing the service road with a sign letting all know that we had free hot dogs and hamburgers for all. He spoke with customers upon entry and exit to the dealership, and he was even kind enough to take photo’s with the staff and the kiddies!!! He even came to my (Melissa Battle) rescue!!!

THANKS BATMAN, YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!

Congratulations to the Stansberry Family!!!

Mr. Bradley Stansberry and family are the proud new owners of a 2009 Tahoe Hybrid.

And guess how……

The Stansberry Family and their new 2009 Tahoe Hybrid

TXU Energy held a Holiday Sweepstakes where the winner would win a new 2009 Tahoe Hybrid. Mr. Stansberry casually entered the sweepstakes, not expecting much as the rest of us wouldn’t have.

The odds in this sweepstakes were 1 in 200,000, which is not that bad, but on the other hand is not that fantastically great either.

Well guess what! Mr. Stansberry happened to be that 1 in 200,000. When he got the call that he was the winner, he did not believe the person that he was speaking with. His wife did not believe it either. It took a little convincing for the Stansberry’s to believe that it was legitimate. After much convincing, they finally believed that they won.

He even got the opportunity to be on “Good Morning Texas” as a result of the sweepstakes winning.

The irony is that it was due time for this family of five to get into a new vehicle, considering that the one they had was 13 years old.

Congratulations to the Stansberry family, and welcome to the General Motors Family!!!

Give this pickup truck the gold

Craig Monahan’s Chevy truck is featured in an Olympics ad.

Not many pickup trucks have melted headlights and turn indicators, so I figured it had to be my buddy’s Silverado that appeared in a Chevy commercial during the Olympics coverage.

Sure enough, there was my pal Firefighter Craig Monahan beside the truck he had driven in from Staten Island on 9/11. One of the two off-duty firefighters with him had leaned out the window, imitating a siren.

“He’s doing, ‘Whoo, whoo,’” Monahan recalled.

They parked near the south tower in time to survive the first collapse and then the second. I watched Monahan immediately afterward crawl into the ruins to search for the 11 missing firefighters from his firehouse, Engine 24/Ladder 5.

When he finally returned to his Silverado, Monahan saw that the falling debris of the south tower had stopped inches short of his front bumper. The surrounding vehicles had been gutted by fire and the truck’s front lights had melted into what looked like huge tears.

The steering wheel had also begun to melt and the interior of the cab was singed. Monahan reached in to turn the ignition key and was astonished to hear the engine start right up.

Somebody operating a wrecker helped clear a path for Monahan to pull away. He changed a front tire that had been bubbled by the heat and he headed for the firehouse.

“The first victory of World War III,” Monahan announced.

Somebody salvaged the oversized nameplate from Ladder 5′s destroyed rig and affixed it to the side of the pickup that ferried them to and from The Pit over the days that followed.

The sight of them going by in this burned and battered truck with “Ladder 5″ bolted to the side always drew a rousing response from folks in the street.

“Every time we got in the truck, they were just cheering,” Monahan said. “It was American spirit at its best. … ‘You can’t keep us down!’”

The recovery effort ended and Ladder 5 got a new rig and the firehouse suffered a new tragedy when it lost two members in the Deutsche Bank fire last year.

The Silverado was back in Monahan’s driveway when Chevrolet called to ask about using it in a commercial to be shown during the 2008 Olympics.

Monahan was leery of cashing in on a tragedy, but he figured it could only be a good thing for people to see this pickup-turned-symbol. He gave the check to an FDNY family.

The commercial aired Sunday during women’s gymnastics and Chevrolet proved capable of more restraint and good taste than our politicians have with regard to 9/11.

The most overt reference to the attack was a silent shot of Monahan standing before the Manhattan skyline absent the twin towers. There was a closeup of those truck lights turned to huge tears and a shot of the truck with its “Ladder 5.”

“If that truck could keep going, we could all keep going,” Monahan continued, ad copy converging with truth.

The Olympic coverage continued to men’s swimming and the U.S. team swam the greatest relay race ever. The winners stood with their gold medals as “The Star-Spangled Banner” played and I thought of the survivors of Ladder 5 rolling by in that battered pickup.

“You don’t give up and you keep moving forward,” Monahan said. “It’s a beautiful thing.”

The Silverado is still in his driveway.

Jupiter Chevrolet Helps Diana Pangle & Girl Scouts

We all love those delicious Girl Scout Cookies and can’t wait for the time of the year when the young ladies come around selling them. If you live in the Garland or Mesquite area there is a better than average chance that you bought your favorite cookie from 12-year-old Diana Pangle of Troup #2251.

Diana says that she has sold cookies to friends, family, and people in her doctor’s office and other places like here at Jupiter Chevrolet where we contributed by purchasing 100 boxes.

Her efforts have helped her achieve “Bronze” status with the Girl Scouts, the highest honor for a Jr. Girl Scout.

So what’s the hardest part about selling so many cookies? “Delivering them”, Diana says which she and her mother, Tina, do one box at a time. Tina also serves as the Troup leader for 2251.

Part of the proceeds for the cookie sales go right back to the community. Troup 2251 recently donated 375 winter coats to The Hella Temple who in turn helped distribute them to local schools and to needy adults in the area.

Diana has been a Girl Scout for 5 years and has no plans to slow down any time soon.

America’s Sports Car: The Chevrolet Corvette

One of the most classic American sports cars is the Chevrolet Corvette, which was first introduced in 1953. It was the first completely American sports car built by an American car company, which is why it is often referred to as “America’s Sports Car”.

Today, Corvettes are manufactured in the city of Bowling Green, Kentucky, where they are created with great care. Though the main complaint with the car was its handling, Corvettes’ handling has been continually improved to be on a par with popular European sports cars. However, they still remain relatively affordable, which is perhaps another one of the reasons why they continue to be such popular sports cars.

Corvettes are also created to be far simpler than the technical sports cars seen in Europe, which is one of the reasons they are cheaper. Due to their simplicity, Corvettes tend to be smaller and weigh less than sports cars manufactured abroad. The famous car designer Harley Earl was the person who originally designed the beloved Chevrolet sports car. He noticed that soldiers after the Second World War were bringing back European sports cars and that America didn’t really have one. At the 1953 Motorama car show, the Corvette that Earl designed was finally unveiled to the shocked public.

The body of the car was originally made with fiberglass, which was brand new at the time. The performance of the car was similar to other Chevrolets produced at the time, but when Chevrolet released it with the first V8 engine in 1955, it became more powerful and therefore quite popular.

Since it was first introduced, there have been six different generations of Corvettes. The first version of the Corvette had about 290 horsepower and a relatively new fuel injection system. There were several options available to it, including power windows and a convertible top. The second version of the Corvette is also quite important as it was known as the Corvette Sting Ray and had four-wheel disc brakes. There are only five of these coveted models left in existence.

The third version had the oddest introduction of the entire group, as it was shown to the public through Mattel’s Hot Wheels line, which had been released a few weeks before the actual car was meant to be shown. The fourth generation was praised for its aerodynamic design, which was uncommon at the time. The fifth generation celebrated the Corvette’s fiftieth anniversary, but also improved the car’s power in nearly every area. The sixth generation Corvette was recently released and has focused on improving the power of the car, rather than creating a new look.

Even though the Corvette name has been around for over fifty years, it continues to be noteworthy to automobile enthusiasts. In 1984 and 1998, it won Motor Trend’s Car of the Year and has appeared on dozens of Ten Best Car lists. The car truly is a piece of automobile history. In fact, the oldest Corvette in existence recently sold at an auction at the price of one million US dollars. The classic American sports car truly is the Chevrolet Corvette, which is why it has been able to survive and remain popular for over half a century.

Serge Lescoat wins new Chevrolet

When Serge Lescoat of North Richland Hills got a call and saw that it was from St. Phillips his first thought was that of fear because he figured that a family member had been hurt in a car wreck or something. But on the other end of the line was Kim Wright of St. Philips Catholic Church and not the hospital. Kim had sold Serge a $5 raffle ticket a couple of months back and she was calling to inform serge #94 was the winning number and he was the new owner of a 2008 Colorado Crew Cab from Jupiter Chevrolet.

Kim says she thinks serge nearly “passed out” but after recovering he said that winning the Colorado was “sweet!”.

Serge is already the owner of 4 other vehicles and says with a chuckle that he might “sell the others, keep the Colorado, and buy me the boat I’ve always wanted”.

Customer Appreciation Day TV Winner

“I can’t believe I won!”. That’s what Betty Davis of Dallas said as she was picking up her new 20 inch HD Flat Screen TV from Jupiter Chevrolet. Ms. Davis was one of many entries during the Customer Appreciation Day held at the dealership on February 23rd, which is the same day she also purchased a 2008 Cobalt from Jupiter Chevrolet. Senior Corporal Victor Lozada-Tirado’s family receives visit from the GUNS and HOSES Foundation of North Texas

The GUNS and HOSES Foundation of North Texas responded to the family of Senior Corporal Victor Lozada-Tirado, Saturday, February 22 at approx 4:30 PM. The family was met at the residence in Plano and provided the customary financial support to the family. Senior Corporal Victor Lozada-Tirado was killed in a motorcycle accident while providing a dignitary escort for a United States Senator Hillary Clinton, a candidate for President. As is the standard procedure for the GUNS and HOSES Foundation of North Texas, funds provided to the immediate family of a fallen public servant are to be used at the sole discretion of the family members. Members of the Dallas, Plano and Garland Police and Fire Departments as well as members of the Foundation joined in the presentation. The GUNS and HOSES Foundation of North Texas accepts donations to continue the support of the families of our fallen heroes. 100% of all donations to the GUNS and HOSES Benevolent Fund will be used in this endeavor. 2008 Multiple Sclerosis MS Walk and 5K Run

Team Holden is marketing a milestone as we join together and Walk MS for the 5th Year. The 2008 Multiple Sclerosis MS Walk and 5K Run will be Saturday Mach 29th.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. The 5k Run starts at 8 a.m.

The MS Walk starts at 8:30 a.m. The event expected finish time is early afternoon.

We have an updated MS Website, more user friendly for your participation and contributions. Remember, your contribution in any amount is tax deductible.

Over 3,000 people walk, 400 run; others in attendance include family members, various supporters and interested visitors. The event is growing yearly.

As we enter our 5th year, we anticipate surpassing our fund raising goal which aids in research a cure.

We were recognized by the Best Tee Shirt Award this past 2007 MS Walk. Our focus for 2008 is to be the most improved team and/or top find raiser; we can do this with your support.

Come and join us at Addison Circle Park and the surrounding Urban Town Center. Enjoy the live entertainment; 5K Competitive “Run for Hope”, 5K Walk; food and refreshments; and activity area for children; fun for the entire family.

Please join our fight to end this devastating disease. Your contributions support continuing research, client services, education and gives hope for a cure in the near future.
