ZÜRICH – August 29, 2008: Chevrolet has handed over the keys a very unique car to games developers, SimBim. They have now created the V-WTCC, which stands for Virtual World Touring Car Chamionship. A V-WTCC RaceRoom will be set up at six FIA WTCC events in Europe where the winners from the qualifying races can compete against one another for a ticket to the final in Monza. The Virtual World Championship Touring cars will be driven over several rounds and has currently reached the fifth round of the season. Until 5 September everyone can take part in online races at the Anderstorp circuit in Sweden and try to get to the top of the classifications.
The world of car sport has never known such a ‘green’ concept with the same exhilaration and adrenalin rush and even the same noises and actions as the ‘real life’ WTCC races. Virtual racing is rapidly gaining popularity with car sport enthusiasts. Both youthful talent and experienced drivers play the range of games from SimBim in order to maintain their skills during the winter period or learn new circuits.
The main prize is the unique Chevrolet HHR, in a special customised version that is also equipped with an environmental friendly LPG installation from the German Fahrmitgas. Besides the car itself, the winner will also receive a voucher for € 500 worth of LPG.
Said Eric Nève, Chevrolet Europe Motorsport Manager: “The Chevrolet HHR and the V-WTCC form a perfect combination of the message that Chevrolet is conveying: distinctive cars for a reasonable price for youthful drivers who also pay serious attention to dealing responsibly with natural energy resources. This initiative is also very much in line with the recent FIA campaign “make cars green” the WTCC is adhering to. The V WTCC contest, therefore, enables us to target environmentally aware, energetic and sporting car enthusiasts.”
As was the case at the WTCC races in Brno, the Chevrolet HHR will be used as a leading car in Oschersleben, this weekend.

From nicely equipped entry subcompacts to award-winning midsize sedans and a capable, compact SUV, General Motors offers plenty of choices for consumers who want to wring more miles out of a gallon of gas. Seventeen 2008 GM models — more than any other automaker — achieve EPA fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon or higher.
Chevrolet leads the pack with eight models — including the hot-selling Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan, the 2008 North American Car of the Year — followed by Saturn with five and Pontiac with four. Topping the mpg performers are the recently released Chevrolet Cobalt XFE (Extended Fuel Economy), equipped with a 2.2L four-cylinder engine and a five- speed manual transmission that deliver 36 mpg and 35 mpg, respectively, on the highway. In fact, Cobalt XFE’s highway fuel economy beats a comparably equipped 2009 Toyota Corolla.
“GM has been and continues to be a leader in delivering a broad range of fuel-efficient vehicles to customers,” said Mark LaNeve, GM North America vice president, Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. “In addition to the 17 models for 2008 that achieve 30 mpg or better on the highway, many of our vehicles either win or are strong contenders in their segments.
“Our customers want a break from high fuel prices and so do we: That is why we are demonstrating leadership and fully leveraging our global technology resources to address pressing automotive energy needs with biofuels such as E85 ethanol, hybrids, extended-range electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cells.”
Chevrolet: Aveo sedan, Aveo5 (both 32 with automatic transmission, 34 with manual); Cobalt coupe and sedan (30 to 33, depending on engine and transmission selection); Cobalt XFE coupe (36); Malibu 2.4L (30 with four- speed transmission, 32 with six-speed); Malibu Hybrid (32); HHR (30 with 2.2L and automatic or manual transmission) and HHR Panel (30 with 2.2L and automatic or manual transmission).
The Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Hybrid and Cobalt XFE coupe are new models for 2008. The Cobalt XFE uses revised engine calibration, low rolling- resistance tires, a new, 3.74:1 final drive ratio and other technologies to drive a 9-percent highway fuel economy improvement and outdistance comparably equipped competitors such as the Honda Civic, Ford Focus and 2009 Toyota Corolla.
General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), the world’s largest automaker, has been the annual global industry sales leader for 77 years. Founded in 1908, GM today employs about 266,000 people around the world. With global headquarters in Detroit, GM manufactures its cars and trucks in 35 countries. In 2007, nearly 9.37 million GM cars and trucks were sold globally.

HHR – A Brief History
The Chevrolet HHR (it stands for Heritage High Roof) debuted at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show as a 2006 model. Designed to slot below the Equinox, it shares the GM Delta platform with the Chevrolet Cobalt.
The vehicle’s design is inspired by the mid- 1940′s Chevrolet cars and trucks, specifically the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban, with large, square fender flares and a hemispherical grille. The design of the HHR has been credited to Bryan Nesbitt who was a former designer at Chrysler where he was the lead designer of the Chrysler PT Cruiser.
Nesbit was recruited by GM to join its staff and served for a time as the chief designer of the Chevrolet brand. The HHR has a large cargo-carrying capacity for a car of its size with 57.7 cubic feet in the passenger version and 62.7 cubic feet in the panel. It has a flat-load floor and fold-flat front passenger seat. Assembled in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, the HHR is available for sale throughout North America and is imported to Japan.
On August 16, 2007, Chevrolet officially revealed the 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS Turbocharged at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Birmingham.
It was introduced as a 2008 model in the Fall of 2007 and features a 2.0 l turbocharged Ecotech LNF I4 engine and intercooler that produces 260 hp, race tuned high performance suspension, five speed manual transmission with short-throw shifter, standard four wheel antilock disc brakes, ground effects with unique front and rear fascias, aggressive black cross-mesh grille, liftgate-mounted aero spoiler, an analog A-pillar-mounted titanium boost gauge, leather wrapped steering wheel with mounted audio controls and unique 18″ high-polished aluminum wheels.
Chevrolet also introduced the HHR SS Panel Concept on October 20, 2007 at the 2007 SEMA Show. A production version is anticipated for the 2009 model year.

The 2009 Chevrolet HHR small SUV will become the first four-cylinder model in General Motors Corp.’s North American lineup that can run on either gasoline or E85 ethanol.
GM North America President Troy Clarke unveiled the FlexFuel Chevy HHR today during a speech at the Midwest Automotive Media Association breakfast, which opened press days for the Chicago Auto Show.
“We will continue to make more of our lineup FlexFuel-capable because we believe ethanol, and specifically E85, is the best near-term answer to reduce our nation’s dependence on oil as energy demand rises here and around the world,” Clarke said.
“The focus needs to be on making E85 more available by developing cellulosic ethanol sources and dramatically increasing the number of stations that offer E85,” he said.
GM is the auto industry leader in offering FlexFuel models – 11 for 2008 and more than 15 planned for 2009.
The HHR, whose January sales of 9,650 were up 73 percent from the same month a year ago, will become the latest Chevrolet FlexFuel model when it goes on sale later this year. Chevrolet has more than 2 million of GM’s more than 2.5 million FlexFuel vehicles on the road.
An HHR running on E85 – a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline – would emit up to 23 percent fewer carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions than if running on gasoline, based on a well-to-wheel analysis by the Argonne National Laboratory.
The HHR will be available with an Ecotec 2.2-liter or Ecotec 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, both of which will be compatible with E85. For the first time, the Ecotec 2.2L is equipped with variable valve timing (VVT), technology that assures precise opening and closing of the valves and accurate control of combustion gases to improve engine performance and efficiency. The Ecotec 2.4L continues to offer VVT.
